I was a top-40 nationally ranked chess player for my age, but the thing that really pulled me in was reading TechCrunch and Popular Mechanics. People were out there building things that mattered, and I wanted to be one of them. As soon as I started high school I joined the VEX Robotics team.

VEX Robotics
Aug 2015 — Jun 2019
Robots that competed at the state and national level in high school.
I studied Mechanical Engineering at UC San Diego with a minor in Design and an area study in Political Science. The design minor was formative; it's where I took Don Norman's class, learned to prototype, and started thinking about technology as something that serves people.

University of California, San Diego · Earl Warren College
2019 — 2024
Minor in Design · Area Study in Political Science
Select coursework: Machine Learning Algorithms, Linear Control, Signals & Systems, Nuclear Energy, Flight Simulation, Mechanical Design I & II, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Computational Methods, Design of Everyday Things, Prototyping, Design for Development, Data Science, Business Project Management
From highway safety to surgical precision to affordable meals, I've designed physical systems where failure isn't an option. At PACCAR, I built ADAS modules for semi-trucks. At Mezli, I wore every hat (UX, product, mechanical engineering) on a YC startup building the world's first fully autonomous restaurant. At the ARC Lab, I designed a counterbalanced surgical robot for lung biopsies.

Advanced Robotics & Controls Lab
Feb 2024 — Jun 2024
A novel "perfect" counterbalance system that keeps a lung biopsy robot in equilibrium throughout its entire motion path around a CT scanner.

Rocket Propulsion Lab
Oct 2022 — Jan 2024
Designed compact cryogenic valves and fluid systems for a 13-foot methalox rocket. Also led business development, securing $100K+ in licenses and sponsorships for a 150-member student org.

Mezli (YC W21)
Oct 2021 — May 2022
Wore every hat at a 3-person startup building the world's first fully autonomous restaurant: UX/UI, product roadmap, and robotics hardware. Launched in Spark Social SF in Fall 2022, serving Mediterranean bowls starting at $7.

PACCAR Innovation Center
Jun 2021 — Aug 2021
Low-cost ADAS module prototypes to make semi-trucks safer to drive.

Bioinspired Robotics & Design Lab
Jan 2020 — Dec 2020
Manufacturing of stretchable sensors for an artificial skin array.
Technology means nothing if people can't use it, trust it, or benefit from it. Interning with Don Norman while he wrote Design for a Better World shaped how I think about design at a systemic level. At Design for America, my team tackled food insecurity head-on. In Tijuana, I helped repair a solar water heater for an orphanage with Global TIES.

Global TIES @ UCSD
Sep 2023 — Dec 2023
Repair and upgrade of a solar water heating system to increase access to hot water at an orphanage in Tijuana.

Design for America
Oct 2022 — Jun 2023
Tools to mitigate food insecurity in San Diego.

UCSD Design Lab
Jan 2022 — May 2022
Manuscript critiques, supplementary materials, and web design for Don Norman's Design for a Better World.
Climate change is the defining challenge of our generation, and solving it starts with energy. I wrote about offshore wind energy policy at BOEM, worked on superconducting magnets for fusion energy at Commonwealth Fusion Systems, and scouted pre-seed deep-tech startups across climate, robotics, and advanced materials at SOSV.

Commonwealth Fusion Systems
Jun 2023 — Sep 2023
Novel components, experimental setups, and insulation schemes operating under high voltages (>15 kV), cryogenic temperatures (<77 K), and high vacuum (<1 Pa) to achieve Q>1 fusion energy.
SOSV
Sep 2022 — Jun 2024
Technical diligence and scouting of pre-seed deep-tech startups with a focus on climate, robotics, and advanced materials.

Bureau of Ocean Energy Management
Aug 2020 — Jun 2021
Summaries of offshore wind energy and grid complementarity research.
As AI systems become more intelligent, how do we preserve human autonomy and ensure they remain trustworthy? I work on human-AI collaboration and scalable oversight to answer these questions. My work was awarded a grant from the Cosmos Institute & Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, where I was selected to present at the AI x Truth-Seeking Symposium. I also worked on projects in AI control, interfaces for model behavior investigations, and scientific capability through SPAR and CBAI.
