I'm Steven, an interdisciplinary engineer and designer working on hard problems with big impacts

Welcome to my workshop on the web!

It's so delightful to cross paths with you! I'm Steven - welcome to my workshop on the web.

I'm an engineer interested in working on novel technology that can improve people's lives. I love exploring the unconventional, risky, and new ideas that have the potential for outsized impact. This has led me to plenty of failure and even more valuable lessons. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with many incredible people on a wide range of ambitious projects.

Previously, I helped engineer fusion systems that will pave the path toward limitless clean energy, fully autonomous restaurants that assemble delicious meals at affordable prices, medical robots that can help diagnose cancer, rockets that push the boundaries of what's possible in college, and ADAS modules that make driving semi-trucks safer. I also have a deep interest in human-centered design, and have interned with Don Norman to help with his book Design for a Better World, and contributed to humanitarian design projects focused on increasing access to food and water in underserved communities. Along the way, I've also served as a bridge between early-stage hard-tech startups and venture capital, learning from amazing founders and conducting technical diligence on climate, robotics, and advanced materials companies at their earliest stages.

As a kid, I ranked among the top 40 chess players in the country for my age group, yet I found myself more captivated by the pages of TechCrunch and Popular Mechanics. There, I saw inventors and engineers using the same creativity and strategic thinking I relied on to win at a board game to drive real, meaningful change in the world. I owe so much to those early inspirations and rabbit holes that set me on this path.

When I’m not working, I’m usually building things I wish existed (some now resting in my personal project graveyard), playing pickup basketball or tennis, finding new strategy games, trying new Mediterranean spots, or playing with my two dalmatians.

Currently, I'm taking time to explore ideas I couldn't pursue in college. The workshop is buzzing with possibility, and I'm excited to see where it leads.
